The World is Alive is a series of aerial photographs that seek to explore the relationship of the human
being and the natural landscape in the twenty first century. Begun during a six month artist residency
at NES in Skagaströnd, Iceland, the project has continued to Thailand and Laos with further
explorations to come. All photographs are self-portraits of the artist, captured in camera with no
further photo manipulation.
We live in an age where it is customary to impose ourselves on the space we find ourselves in,
dominating it with our presence and preferences. It has become human nature to introduce ourselves
into a place and then seek to conquer it. We seek to bend the surroundings to cater to our own taste
and conveniences.
Have we so quickly forgotten that we are part of the very world itself? In spite of twenty four hour fast
food and streaming services, we are still very much part of nature just as it is part of us. We are made
from the same organic material as the trees and the leaves that fall from them. We share carbon with
the cliffs and the stars.
