We live in an age of control. Whether we are choosing what to watch on television, what temperature is comfortable for us, or what to eat we have endless possibilities. We can tailor each of these to our desires at any hour of the day or night: as a society we are very much in the driver’s seat when it comes to chasing our own satisfaction.
For many, however, this satisfaction is fleeting or never comes at all. There is a factor directly contributing to this, a factor that we will never have control of no matter how much we illusion ourselves: time.
Time is inescapable, unavoidable. It crumbles empires to dust and turns the young old. It perpetuates fresh starts and old habits alike.
By juxtaposing pictures of my youth from found 35mm negatives onto my adult frame, I am seeking to explore the fleeting mysteries of time. Through these carefully constructed photographs, I strive to show the control time has over us rather than the other way around.
